Serving: What the Health Review

There are so many things that hit social media that become the thing to do, eat, wear, and watch. The new trending thing to watch has been a film on Netflix called "What the Health". Never being one to follow trends, especially social media trends, I had no interest in watching this film. I actually became very annoyed hearing about it, and assumed that it was another film geared towards things that I can't eat and that will eventually kill me. However, committed to making some lifestyle changes, I thought what's the harm in watching it. After watching the movie, not only was I right in my assumptions, there were A LOT of myths debunked about our diets, the food that we consume, and the food industry as a whole.

Being a vegetarian for four years now, I'm still often questioned and sometimes criticized for, some reason, about my dietary choices. Culturally, being a vegetarian and vegan, is not an acceptable practice. It made sense as to why that's been the case and STILL is the case after watching this movie! From birth we're programmed to believe that certain foods are needed for a healthy lifestyle. We're also programmed to believe that these major corporations such as the the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, and the American Cancer Society, just to name a few, are designed to fight fight these diseases by teaching consumers preventative methods to prevent them and eventually cure them. But if you think about it, if that's truly the case, why does 1 out of 2 Americans suffer from diabieties or why will 1 out of 3 Americans die from cancer or heart disease?! It has to be something "they" aren't telling us! This film exposes EVERYTHING related to the link between diet and disease, fraud in the government and the food industries, agricultural and environmental racism, and so much more!

I literally gagged about the truths uncovered in this film! I've considered going back to a strict plant based diet for months now and after watching this film, I now cannot think of consuming anything that comes from an animal. Now whether you watch this movie and remain the same or watch it and change your lifestyle, this is one social media trend that's worth checking out.
