Serving: Issa Rant

It is not difficult to see how enamored I am with makeup! From researching new techniques, creating new looks, and trying different products; makeup has become a serious pastime of mine! Unfortunately the more that I divulge into trying different products, foundations in particular, I'm noticing that makeup companies are TRYING IT!! One would think that she can go to a store and purchase a foundation in her exact shade?! Unfortunately that is not the case!! I'm noticing that, whether high end or drug store, foundations come in few shades!! This is so unacceptable!!

I would give the benefit of doubt by saying at least have a variety of shades ranges where one can come remotely close to her skin tone. It may be a hair lighter or darker but at least we're in the ballpark and can make it work. But for most companies to literally have five shades, which of course only are complimentary to fairer skin tones, is ridiculous!! Not to mention, stores only carrying few shades in a brand that has 20 is crazy to me!! Case in point, two of my favorite drugstore foundations (Wet N Wild Photofocus and the Milano Conceal and Perfect Foundations) have a wide range of shades, however my skin tone is usually the darkest shade sold in stores!! I'm light to medium skin tone and I'm the DARKEST shade...this is crazy!! Do we really have to take it to makeup guys?! This is so frustrating and stupid!! Women of color make up a significant part of the beauty industry's clientele, just based on the fact that we come is a myriad of shades and tones!!! Of course some some companies have taken heed to our frustrations and have widen their range of shades. For example, Maybeline's famous Fit Me foundation, extended their collection by adding 20 new shades. Also more black owned brands are on the rise, which are catering more to the beautiful tones of women of color.

This may not be a concern to many but it's a concern of mine, as a beauty enthusiast. Companies need to take heed to our frustrations and do better!! We all have the right to be represented and treated fairly as consumers. Black and white alike!
