Serving: The Short of It, My Bald Experience

Bundles on bundles on bundles, the hair industry is one of the largest businesses in the world, generating close to a billion dollars in 2016 ($761 million to be exact). Weaves, extensions, wigs, natural hair care, hair accessories, beauty supply stores, you name it, this industry is a business that is definitely booming. Outside of the business aspect, hair is an essential part to a woman's look and for some can be an extra layer of self-confidence. With the numerous options on the market, the last thing a woman would think of is shaving her head, right? Wrong?! Many women today are embracing different aspects of style, even as it relates to hair.

As for me, the decision to shave my head, wasn't determine by a deep revelation about myself or wanting to copy any look. After rocking weaves, and a pixie cut for a period of time, I literally just became EXHAUSTED with doing or getting my hair done. I pride myself on being a pretty decent "kitchen beautician" and found joy in creating new looks with my hair, until it became a second job. It literally felt like I was perming, coloring, cutting, and washing my hair daily. So one day I decided to cut it all off. I remember being in my bathroom telling myself, ?" if it doesn't work, I'll wear a wig for four months and let my hair grow out". However, after cutting my hair I remembered feeling so liberated! The thought of no longer stressing or slaving over my hair, was truly amazing. Not to mention, it didn't look too bad. Many people were very shocked by the idea of me making such a drastic change, however for me it was one of the best decisions I made in my life. I love the idea of not being confined to societal norms of what "beauty" is supposed to look like and changing people's ideas of what it takes to be beautiful. Don't get me wrong, wigs and extensions, or whatever your preference, is another way to express creativity, which at times I still do! However, stepping out and doing something daring definitely paid off. It forces me to exude confidence.

Many do not know this but each week I cut my own hair, I have created a style that suits my face and my frame. It has forced me to become creative in other areas, such as make-up ( for more on my makeup journey, stay tuned lol) and even stepping more outside the box with fashion. I'm not sure how long I will keep this look up, but for now, my team is the bald team.

Hope you enjoy!
