Serving: Embracing Your Personal Uniqueness

Standing at 6 feet tall, 200 lbs, and a bald head, one would say I'm not the average looking female. It's sometimes very alarming to me, the looks and stares that I receive on a DAILY basis. One could imagine how annoying it is to be starred at like a freak of nature. However, through prayer, wisdom, and growth I've realized that my aesthetics are so unique I have no choice but to stand out! Society has created an unrealistic perception of what makes a person beautiful. As much as I love all things fashion, I often times wonder why more of realistic looking women aren't represented in the media or in the fashion and beauty industry. I see the profound impact of  this misrepresentation on so many people (myself included), trying to keep up with the skewed societal perspective of what makes a person beautiful.

When it comes to my personal style, I have to make sure I do not become so consumed by people's opinions. I keep it very simple, whatever I feel I try. No matter how over the top it may be. It's one of the few areas in my life where I'm the most liberated and non-restricted. (Imagine if I would live my entire life that way! Smh).

My prayer is, that this blog will serve as a platform for people to embrace their uniqueness. Whatever that may look like and coming from a person who is still embracing hers.

I appreciate the plus size model Ashley Graham. Not only for making history, but for breaking down barriers for women such as myself. I believe she embodies the look of women of today. In addition, to providing a great representation for all women to love the skin they're in.

So here's to embarrassing our personal differences, promoting self-love, while also making necessary changes towards a healthier lifestyle. Encompassing the mind, body, & spirit.
